Interior Design Planner - Signage
Scope of Position.

70% Space Planning, Development, Project Delivery
The Interior Planner – Signage supports the mission, vision and values of The Ohio State University and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center though planning, projects, branding and standards development. Signage and wayfinding are key components of leading edge environments of care, learning and research. This position focusses primarily on signage, while also encompassing interior space planning & programming, space modifications, project initiation, project management, procurement, vendor and installation coordination, branded way-finding, visuals supporting phased relocations and moves, ADA and other relevant compliance recommendations, and estimating support.
The Interior Design Planner - Signage must be proficient in working within a diverse project team concept. Essential skills include proactive and disciplined communication, documentation, leadership, customer service, coordination of multiple projects, and regulatory compliance.
The Interior Design Planner- Signage participates in all aspects of OSUWMC signage and wayfinding planning, design and installation. The planner provides budgetary input for capital project planning, programming, standards and their incorporation into design concepts, procurement strategy, uniformity and clarity in guidelines, project management, vendor coordination, implementation planning and coordination, development and incorporation of best practices, and asset management.
25% Leadership and Vision
The degree of involvement on any specific project varies, within larger project teams of Senior Planners, Construction Managers, and others. This planner is responsible for the development of project scopes, concepts and alternatives, signage solutions responding to branding and environmental graphic frameworks, and collaboration with vendors and associate architects. Once established, project budgets and timelines are monitored for applicable portions of the work. The project role typically includes reviewing project schedules and estimates, design documents and specifications, accountability for signage compliance requirements, procuring signs, negotiating pricing, and supporting temporary construction conditions with signs.
5% Other Department Functions
This position is part of a larger OSUWMC facility planning team focused on guidelines for effective space utilization, space management, and prioritization of potential interior space modifications. Similarly, the planner is part of a larger University team. Coordination of relevant activities is expected with other University entities.
Education and Professional Requirements:
A Bachelor degree is required in a relevant related discipline, including but not limited to Interior Space Planning, Interior Design, Architecture, Graphic Design, etc. We require two years of relevant professional experience in a planning or design firm, college or University, or related vendor organization.
Working knowledge is expected with CAD software, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Photoshop and graphic software packages.
The Interior Design Planner- Signage is a ‘people person’. Excellent communication skills are required, and are essential to positive project outcomes. Project Management experience is desirable, and is experience with bid specifications and purchasing. While professional certification and registration is not required, the applicant must demonstrate a commitment to learning and professional growth. It is highly desirable for the planner to demonstrate an awareness of / experience with issues in the planning and design of clinical spaces within healthcare organizations. Similar awareness and experience is desirable with the planning and design of office and research environments.
